What is SION and Why Does Your Export Business Need It?
SION (Standard Input Output Norms) are technical norms prescribed by DGFT that specify the quantity of raw materials required to manufacture a particular export product. These norms are used to determine the quantity of duty-free inputs that can be imported under the Advance Authorisation Scheme.
If a SION is already available for your product, Advance Authorisation can be obtained directly based on the prescribed norms. Where no SION exists, or the existing norm does not match the actual manufacturing process, an application must be filed before the DGFT Norms Committee for new SION fixation or amendment of the existing SION. This is commonly required for new products, changed manufacturing processes, or products with unique technical specifications.
