What is AEO — Authorised Economic Operator?

AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) Certification is a trade facilitation programme of CBIC that recognises importers, exporters, manufacturers, and logistics companies with strong customs compliance, financial stability, and secure supply chain practices. AEO-certified businesses are treated as Trusted Traders and receive benefits such as faster customs clearance, reduced inspections, and priority cargo handling.

The Indian AEO programme includes AEO-T1, AEO-T2, and AEO-T3 categories, with higher levels offering greater trade facilitation benefits. AEO certification also improves international trade credibility and helps businesses receive preferential customs treatment in partner countries under India’s Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs).

A clear step-by-step approach from initial enquiry to final delivery.

Gap Analysis

We assess your compliance history, financial health, internal controls, physical security, and supply chain security against all AEO requirements for the target tier.

AEO Application Filing

Application is filed on the CBIC AEO portal with all documents, company information, and compliance declarations.

CBIC Verification

CBIC conducts an on-site verification visit to your premises. We prepare your team and facility with a mock verification walkthrough.

Certificate Issuance

AEO Certificate is issued by CBIC after satisfactory verification. We collect and verify all details on the certificate.

AEO benefits are activated at each customs port. We maintain an annual compliance checklist and prepare you for AEO renewal 6 months before expiry.

Documentation

Documents and Requirements

Export / Application Documents

  • Company Registration Certificate and MOA or AOA
  • IEC Certificate (Importer Exporter Code)
  • GST Registration Certificate
  • Audited Financial Statements — minimum 3 years
  • List of all Customs Ports ICD and airports used
  • Customs Compliance History — no major violations last 3 years
  • Internal Control Manual and Compliance SOPs
  • IT Security Policy and Access Control Document
⚠️ AEO certification can be suspended or revoked by CBIC if major customs violations occur after certification, or if the annual self-assessment reveals non-compliance. Maintaining your customs compliance record is essential to retaining AEO status.

Import / Supporting Documents

  • CBIC AEO Certificate with AEO unique reference number
  • AEO Verification Report from CBIC officers
  • Port-wise AEO Benefit Activation Confirmations
  • Annual Compliance Self-Assessment Report
  • Updated CBIC AEO Renewal Certificate
  • Mutual Recognition Agreement benefit activation documents
  • Internal AEO Compliance Audit Reports
  • CBIC AEO Communication Records
⚠️ AEO benefits must be explicitly activated at each customs port or ICD where you operate. Simply holding the AEO certificate does not automatically mean priority clearance everywhere. Activation requires coordination with the local customs commissionerate.

Why CargoMate

Why Choose CargoMate?

Experienced, reliable, and focused on your specific requirements.

Pre-Application Gap Analysis

We conduct a thorough gap analysis before you apply — identifying compliance gaps that would cause rejection and helping fix them before submission.

High First-Time Approval Rate

Thorough preparation, complete documentation, and mock verification preparation maximise your chances of approval on first application.

Post-Certification Activation

AEO benefits don't activate automatically. We coordinate with each customs port you operate at to ensure priority clearance actually works after certification.

MRA Country Benefits

For exporters, AEO's Mutual Recognition Agreements with USA, EU, and others provide priority clearance at foreign customs — a competitive advantage.

Annual Compliance Maintenance

AEO requires annual self-assessment. We help you prepare the annual report and identify any compliance issues before they trigger CBIC action.

All Three Tiers Managed

Whether you're applying for T1 for the first time or renewing T3 after 3 years, we manage applications at all AEO tier levels.

Common Questions

Clear answers about how CargoMate handles aeo certification services.

Answers reflect general practice. Contact CargoMate for guidance specific to your requirements.

AEO-certified companies receive: dedicated priority clearance lane at customs, significantly reduced frequency of physical examination, faster refund processing, reduced bank guarantee requirements for customs bonds, self-sealing of export containers at factory (T3), direct port delivery for imports (T3), and Mutual Recognition Agreement benefits — priority treatment at partner country customs administrations in USA, EU, South Korea, Hong Kong, and more.
The applicant must: be in business for at least 3 years, hold a valid IEC, be registered under GST, have no major customs violations or pending proceedings in the last 3 years, demonstrate financial solvency through audited accounts, and have documented internal controls and supply chain security measures.
From application submission to certificate issuance, AEO-T1 typically takes 3-6 months. This includes CBIC portal processing time, schedule for on-site verification visit, and administrative processing after verification. Higher tiers take somewhat longer.
AEO certificates are valid for 3 years from the date of issuance. Annual compliance self-assessment must be done during the validity period. Renewal application should be filed 90 days before the certificate expires.
India has signed AEO Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) with the USA (CTPAT), South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, and the European Union. Under MRAs, an Indian AEO-certified exporter receives priority customs treatment at the partner country's customs — fewer inspections, faster clearance, and reduced cargo holds — giving them a competitive advantage over non-AEO exporters.
