What is FSSAI and Why is It Required for Food Importers?
FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) regulates food safety and quality standards in India. Any business involved in manufacturing, processing, importing, distributing, or selling food products must obtain a valid FSSAI licence or registration.
For food importers, an FSSAI Central Licence with import permission is mandatory, and each shipment requires an FSSAI import clearance NOC at the port of entry. The consignment may also undergo inspection and testing before customs clearance is granted.
